Dr. Susan Klosterhaus
Vice President– Science & Certification
Dr. Susan Klosterhaus is Vice President, Science and Certification at the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute. In this role Susan leads the Cradle to Cradle Certified Products Program and oversees development of the Cradle to Cradle Certified Product Standard.
Prior to joining the Institute in 2012, Susan conducted research on the fate and toxicity of chemical contaminants in the environment for more than 15 years. She was the lead organic contaminant chemist at the San Francisco Estuary Institute, where she conducted water quality monitoring projects to support environmental management and policy development for San Francisco Bay. At SFEI she led research on contaminants of emerging concern in aquatic environments and developed an expertise in the identification and analysis of flame retardant chemicals used in consumer products. Prior to working at SFEI, Susan was a research scientist in laboratories at the University of Maryland and the University of South Carolina. Susan earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Chemistry from the University of Maryland and her M. S. in Public Health and B. S. in Marine Science from the University of South Carolina.
