The Cradle to Cradle Certified targets for renewable electricity and addressing greenhouse gas emissions were met by producing onsite renewable energy and purchasing renewable energy and purchasing carbon credits. In typical solar panels, glass accounts for the majority of the panel’s mass, meaning this requirement would be only met if the glass is C2C certified. The current supply chain and production volumes limit the achievable share of certified material, making it impossible to include required percentages without risking panel quality. Last, the certified GOLD inputs are more expensive than conventional inputs and scaling production with higher certified content is not yet economically feasible.
