Ignasi Cubiñá

Ignasi Cubiñá is one of the pioneers of the Cradle to Cradle approach. A biologist from the University of Barcelona with extensive experience in the food and flavoring industry, he discovered the depth and consistency of the Cradle to Cradle approach in 2004 through the book by William McDonough and Michael Braungart.

In 2005, he decided to change the course of his professional life, dedicating himself from then on to promoting the implementation of C2C in Europe and founding Eco Intelligent Growth. As director of the Barcelona-based consultancy, in 2009 he obtained the licence agreement to assess products through Cradle to Cradle Certified®, evaluating the first products locally that same year together with MBDC.

At the same time, and also as part of the EIG team, Ignasi promoted the implementation of this vision in building design and construction, collaborating with W. McDonough on several projects, including the Legacy building in Bogotá and Park 20|20 in Schiphol.

When C2CPII was founded, Ignasi was among the first accredited assessors, and since then his work with EIG has expanded to various sectors and continents, reaching agreements to develop certification in Pakistan and Bangladesh, as well as other countries in Europe and Latin America.

Among the most emblematic projects he led are the certification of products for Stella McCartney in the context of Fashion Positive, participation in the Fashion for Good Almanac, Andreu World, Interface, among many others.

At the same time, Ignasi also promoted innovation in tools and methodologies. In 2012, EIG joined Grupo Construcía, driving the development of the roadmap for the company's transformation towards the circular economy. In this context, the Lean2Cradle® methodology was born to manage the construction process by integrating the C2C vision.

Later, he promoted the adaptation of KPMG's True Value® methodology to the built environment to monetize the impact of circular construction compared to traditional construction.

He also developed the C3A methodology, in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano, and recently, Biodiversity Counts, to monetise impacts on biodiversity with local precision. Currently he’s leading the creation of a community of practitioners in Spain, together with GBCE and Grupo Construcia, to include circular perspectives int the risk assessment of building assets, linked to the Circular Real Estate Scorecard initiative in The Netherlands.

He has been an independent advisor to CPEA since 2023 and has collaborated with universities in America and Europe (UPC, EAN, IED, IQS, among others).

He is a regular speaker at all the major European forums where the circular economy is the topic, especially when speaking from a C2C perspective, such as Kingpins Transformers, TED Talk, Resource London, Smart Cities, Wastebuild Amsterdam, and Circular Construction Summit.

In 2025, he left EIG and Grupo Construcía to embark on a new phase as an entrepreneur and independent consultant, exploring new interests ranging from biochar applications to biomimetics.
