C2C Certified® Recognized by Washington State's Safer Salons Partnership

Washington State's Department of Ecology has selected Cradle to Cradle Certified® as a qualifying program for its Safer Salons Partnership, a pilot initiative helping hair salons and barbershops transition to safer products by offering financial reimbursement of up to $5,000 for purchasing eligible hair products. The program launched its six-month pilot in December 2025.

C2C Certified® Recognized by Washington State's Safer Salons Partnership

After evaluating fifteen programs, Washington Ecology's technical team determined that Cradle to Cradle Certified® Silver, Gold, and Platinum and Cradle to Cradle Certified® Material Health Silver, Gold, and Platinum meet or exceed all Level 2 criteria, the program's highest evaluation tier. Level 2 programs are those that ban a broader range of harmful chemicals and assess the health hazards of ingredients and impurities. The team noted they were impressed by the comprehensive literature search and professional judgment used in C2CPII's methodology and encouraged more salon product manufacturers to pursue the C2C Certified® certification.

This recognition has many benefits. For salon owners, workers and clients in Washington State, it means that products certified by C2C Certified® are endorsed for safety and backed by financial incentives to encourage switching to safer products. For C2C Certified® hair and skincare brands, it creates a new or larger market in salons in Washington State, with potential to grow as similar programs emerge nationally. Washington State is also offering a grant to  seeking C2C Certified® Certification.

For salon owners, a list of currently certified hair and skincare products can be found in our product registry. You can read more on how Washington State is promoting safer product use and Cradle to Cradle Certified in businesses here.
